The National Investigating Agency (NIA) is conducting searches at various places— Chennai, Cuddalore, Salem and Kayalpattinam—in Tamil Nadu since Monday morning in connection with three cases, including the SSI Wilson murder case.

Special sub inspector Wilson was shot dead at Kaliyakavilai check post on January 8, near Kanyakumari. The NIA took over the case from Kanyakumari police a week before. According to sources, a four-member NIA team from Kerala is searching the house of Mohideen Fatima in Kayalpattinam near Thiruchendur in south Tamil Nadu. The searches are conducted at Fatima’s house following a tip-off that the murder case accused Abdul Shameem and Thoufiq had stayed in her house for a few hours before shooting down Wilson at the Kaliyakaavilai check post. The search is on at Fatima’s house since morning.

At Mohamed Pura in Salem, another NIA team is conducting searches at the residence of Abdul Rahman, who was recently arrested by the agency helping those who were in contact with the IS module for procuring sim cards. Searches are also on at Abdul Rahman’s mobile store in the same area.

In Chennai and in neighbouring Kancheepuram districts, the NIA is conducting searches at the residences of major telecom employees who allegedly issued 35 sim cards to terror suspects. The houses of two temporary employees—Rajesh and Pachaiyappan—of a telecom company are being searched by the agency. The 35 sim cards were activated with the documents of genuine customers while they were used by terror suspects linked to the IS module.
