Ram Mandir trust

The first meeting of the trust constituted by the Narendra Modi government to oversee construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya is scheduled to be held in Delhi on Wednesday. According to some reports, the trust meeting on Wednesday could finalise the date to start construction of the Ram temple. Media outlets have reported possible dates for start of construction of the Ram temple are Ram Navmi (April 2) and Akshay Tritiya (April 26).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the formation of the 15-member trust in Parliament on February 5. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra trust has seven members, five nominated members and three trustees. The trust was formed in adherence to the Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya dispute in November last year.

Kejriwal cabinet meeting

The cabinet of the Arvind Kejriwal government is expected to meet on Wednesday, days after the Aam Aadmi Party dispensation was sworn in for a second term in office. A key issue likely to come up for discussion will be the implementation of the "10 guarantees" the AAP had promised in the recent Delhi election campaign. These include uninterrupted power supply, garbage collection and amenities for unauthorised colonies.

Birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will on Wednesday visit Shivneri Fort, the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in Junnar tehsil to celebrate 'Shiv Janmotsav', the birth anniversary of the legendary ruler.

Several cultural programmes will be organised at the historic fort in Pune district, officials said, adding that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and minister Chhagan Bhujbal among others will attend.

9th Democratic Debate

The ninth debate of Democratic presidential candidates will be held in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Five candidates have qualified for the debate in Las Vegas. They are Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar. The debate comes even as the 'primary' contests have begun to select a presidential candidate to challenge incumbent Donald Trump in November.

Sitharaman to meet govt officials on coronavirus measures

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said she would hold a meeting with the secretaries of different ministries on Wednesday to assess the impact of the coronavirus outbreak in China on domestic industry and exports. The meeting is expected to result in steps, in consultation with the PMO, to deal with the situation at the earliest.

On Tuesday, Sitharaman met with representatives from various industries adversely hit by the coronavirus outbreak. Various industry representatives, including those from pharma, textiles, chemicals electronics and IT hardware, solar, auto, surgical equipment, paint, fertiliser, telecom glass, mobile manufacturing, edible oil, shipping and tourism, attended the meeting.

Describing pharma, chemical and solar equipment segments as the worst affected, the finance minister said disruptions are very visible in these sectors due to delay in shipments.

Inclement weather in Himachal Pradesh

The meteorological department has predicted rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh over the next few days.

Snowfall and rain may occur at some places in the middle, high hills from Wednesday to Monday, whereas rain and thunderstorm may take place in several places in plains and low hills of the state till Saturday. The weather department has issued the 'yellow' weather warning for Thursday and Friday only for heavy rain and snowfall in middle hills and thunderstorm in plains and low hills.
