Subhash Patil is now a qualified doctor, thanks to the second chance life presented to him. Patil who joined the MBBS course in 1997, went to prison in 2002 in a murder case. He was jailed with his lover Padmavathi for killing her husband Ashok Guttedar.

Padmavathi and Patil fell in love when he was living near her at Kalbuargi in Karnataka. When Padmavathi's husband got to know of the affair, he threatened to kill Patil, forcing the duo to kill Guttedar.

Patil was released on Independence day in 2016 for good conduct. Upon release, he sought permission from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to continue his MBBS studies. He was granted permission after the university sought legal opinion on the matter.

Patil has also managed to secure a diploma and MA in journalism from Karnataka State Open University.

While in prison, Subhash helped out doctors in the Central Prison Hospital.
