BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has a reputation of being outspoken on virtually every issue under the sun. Whether it is on reclaiming disputed religious sites for Hindus in Kashi and Mathura or on coining colourful names for members of the Nehru-Gandhi clan, Swamy can be counted on to speak his mind.

Swamy is believed to be the only senior BJP leader to warn about an economic slowdown since most of 2019.
On Thursday, Swamy took aim at another issue that few in the BJP talk about: The perceived centralisation of decision making in the party. Swamy blamed the current state of "combative" politics on the "anti-national mentality of TDK (his acronym for Congress chief Sonia Gandhi)” and “the over-centralised decision making culture in BJP".
Swamy tweeted, "It is possible interact with several CMs for developing a peaceful democracy. The present combative situation is due to the anti-national mentality of TDK and the over-centralised decision making culture in BJP. With a new party President soon this harmony project can begin."
In an interview with HuffPost India just before the declaration of Lok Sabha election results in May last year, Swamy had talked about "centralisation" of decision making in the BJP. Swamy told HuffPost India, “The main problem is his [Modi’s] extraordinarily unhealthy centralisation of decision making. And the utter disregard that party president [Amit Shah] has for the worker".
Swamy added, "Modi is also highly inaccessible... It should not be like a corporate—asking for appointment—and some flunky comes and tells you that he is busy today."

Swamy told the HuffPost India, "… it all comes down to his (Modi) okaying it or two or three people in his immediate circle deciding what ministers decide... It’s too big a country to centralise. Decisions get delayed".
As an example of the centralised system of decision making, Swamy claimed his proposal to make the Ram Setu a national monument had been lying in the Prime Minister's Office for five years.
Swamy had also hinted at a centralisation of power in the Modi government in the aftermath of the air strike on Balakot in February 2018. He had tweeted only seven people, including Modi and NSA Ajit Doval, were involved in planning the operation, with then defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman being left out.
Swamy had then tweeted, “I learn that our smash hit operation against terror camps in Pak and PoK was conceptualised by by just seven persons: PM NSA three service Chief and IB & RAW.”
