Maharashtra deal likely to be sealed

Congress and NCP will have another round of meeting on Thursday to give final touches to the contours of the alliance. The issue of rotational chief ministership in Maharashtra did not come up during the discussion with the NCP.  The Congress-NCP alliance on Wednesday gave its most categorical indication about joining hands with arch rival Shiv Sena, with former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan expressing confidence of forming a "stable" government soon in the state after a marathon meeting of senior leaders of the two parties in New Delhi.

Arunachal CM Khandu in Delhi

Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu will visit New Delhi on Thursday to apprise the Ministry of Home Affairs of the decision of the people on the CAB, which is likely to be tabled in the winter session of Parliament to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said on October 1 last that Parliament will pass the CAB which will grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan after seven years of stay in the country even if they do not possess proper documents.

Biz leaders, experts to discuss corporate governance in 2-day summit

Business leaders, regulatory heads and experts will discuss various aspects of corporate governance, including related party transgressions, during a two-day summit starting on Thursday. The summit, to be held on November 21-22 in Mumbai, will witness the participation of all categories of stakeholders, including business leaders, regulators, corporate chieftains, directors, lawyers, chartered accountants, other professionals and board members. The summit is being organised by Excellence Enablers, an initiative of former Sebi chairman M Damodaran. At the inaugural session, the discussion will take place onthe Kumar Mangalam Birla Committee Report on Corporate Governance, of 1999, and the journey through the last two decades.

Amit Shah, Gadkari to address poll meetings in Jharkhand

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address election meetings in Jharkhand on November 21. The BJP president will deliver speech at poll meetings in Manika and Lohardaga that day, BJPs state unit General Secretary Dipak Prakash said in Ranchi. BJPs working president J P Nadda will speak at a poll rally in Latehar on November 22, Prakash said. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari will address a poll meeting at Bishrampur on November 22. All the four seats are among the 13 constituencies going for polls in the first of the five-phase elections on November 30.

PM to address conclave of accountants general

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday will address a conclave organised in New Delhi to find ways to use technology in audit operations. He will address accountants general and deputy accountants general from across the country. Before addressing the conclave, the prime minister will unveil a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India here, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.

NIA to host first counter-terrorism cooperation exercise for 'Quad' countries

The National Investigation Agency is hosting the first counter-terrorism exercise for the "Quad" countries—India, the US, Japan and Australia—at the NIA headquarters in Delhi on November 21 and 22, officials said. The 'CT-TTX' (counter-terrorism table-top exercise) is first such engagement among the Quad countries on regional and global issues of common interest and also in the domain of counter-terrorism and cooperation, the NIA officials said. According to the NIA, the purpose of the exercise is to assess and validate CT response mechanisms in the light of emerging terrorist threats as well as to provide opportunities to share best practices and to explore areas for enhanced cooperation amongst participating countries.

NGT committee asks Meghalaya to submit revised coal ransport policy 

An expert committee of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Meghalaya government to submit a second draft policy on November 21 for auctioning and transporting extracted coal lying at various depots in the state.

Mahinda Rajapaksa to be sworn in as PM

New Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's brother, former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, will be sworn in as the country's new prime minister on Thursday, their party spokesman said on Wednesday. Current Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Wednesday he would resign on Thursday after his party's candidate lost a presidential election. This will see two brothers holding the top positions in the government of Sri Lanka for the first time in its history.
