Even as Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari recommended President's rule in Maharashtra as none of the leading political parties have managed to cobble up an alliance to form government in the state, an AAP leader has hit out at the Congress over its indecisiveness over extending support for government formation in the state.

Taking to Twitter, Aam Aadmi Party leader Preeti Sharma Menon accused the grand old party of putting the party before the nation. "Congress leadership always puts their party before the nation. In Lok Sabha they stubbornly refused regional alliances and helped BJP sweep. Now they are giving Maharashtra on a platter to BJP. It is moribund attitude will decimate it soon," she tweeted.

In another tweet, she said the Congress MLAs in Maharashtra should join the NCP. "Congress MLAs in Maharashtra should join @PawarSpeaks. It's really time for Congress to die," she said.

Maharashtra governor had asked the BJP, Shiv Sena and the NCP to express willingness to form government in the state.

After the BJP declined on Sunday, he invited the Shiv Sena, which, on Monday, sought more time to submit letters of support. However, the governor declined the request.

The governor, who had given the NCP time till 8.30 pm on Tuesday to express its "willingness and ability" to form government, has submitted a report to President Ram Nath Kovind recommending President's rule in the state.

With 54 MLAs, the NCP is the third largest party after the BJP (105) and the Shiv Sena (56) in the 288-member House, where the halfway mark is 145. The Congress has 44 MLAs.
