The Uttar Pradesh government is continuing its preparations to maintain law and order before and after the Supreme Court's impending verdict on the Ayodhya dispute.

News agency ANI has reported that the local administration in Ambedkar Nagar district, which borders Ayodhya district, has asked eight colleges to provide amenities for setting up temporary jails on their campuses.

ANI reported that the "District school inspector, Ambekdar Nagar, through a letter, directed heads of three colleges in Akbarpur and one each in Tanda, Jalalpur, Jaitpur, Bhiti and Alapur to provide buildings and other amenities to the police". The letter, issued on Wednesday, informs that the move was part of orders from the local police in Ambedkar Nagar to shortlist institutions for establishment of temporary jails.

Earlier this week, the government had announced that the Ayodhya district administration had imposed a ban on inflammatory social media posts related to the Ayodhya dispute. The ban will be in force until December 28. Security preparations in Ayodhya district started in October itself. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were enforced in Ayodhya in October and would remain in effect until December 10.

On Monday, it was announced that the Centre had ordered immediate deployment of 15 companies of paramilitary forces to Uttar Pradesh. These personnel would be deployed until November 18.

On Wednesday, Ayodhya Senior Superintendent of Police Ashish Tiwari told ANI "Elaborate deployment of forces, intelligence network and confidence-building measures are in place. We have launched a mobile application connecting 16,000 volunteers in 1,600 villages, with 10 volunteers each." The police is also actively monitoring social media for fake news aimed at stirring communal tension.
