In an attempt to play up 'Brand Kejriwal' in the run-up to assembly elections in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday launched a mobile app, aptly titled 'AK App', through which the party aims to showcase the work done by the AAP government in the national capital.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who launched the app at the party headquarters in Delhi, said the initiative was in sync with the AAP's image as a technology-friendly and youth-oriented party. “Aam Aadmi Party is the newest party in the country, born only a few years ago. It is a party of the youth. Since the Anna (Hazare) movement, the party has been using the most modern methods of social media platforms to reach out to the people. The 'AK App' has been developed to take another step towards our social outreach,” Kejriwal said.

With the party projecting Kejriwal as its face for the elections and is keen to maximise the impact of 'Brand Kejriwal', the app promises “exclusive access” to his public event calendar. All his programmes will be streamed live on the app. Besides, the app will have a section which traces Kejriwal's journey, from his days as a student at IIT Kharagpur, to his struggles as an activist and his transition into politics. An interactive timeline documents this journey through pictures and videos.

The app will have information on the party and the Delhi government's work and its policies. It will have a 'Live TV' feature, which will allow people to watch events, press conferences and announcements. There will also be a gallery of videos which showcase key moments from Kejriwal's life, his speeches and interviews.

Kejriwal said the app will counter “false propaganda and misinformation” against his party and government. “When people spread propaganda against us, often we are not even given a chance to present our case and clarify. Now, through this app, we will reach out to the public directly against all such propaganda through a section called 'Truth vs. Propaganda'. In this section, the people will be told the truth about an issue so they can differentiate between facts and falsehoods.”
