The defeat in his home turf of Guna seems to have affected former Union minister Jyotiradtiya Scindia deeply. Almost five months after the results, Scindia got emotional while speaking about Lok Sabha election results on Monday.

“I am hurt by the Lok Sabha results. But I will continue to work for my area. I am working according to my capacity. You will not find any shortcoming in me. Now, there are no 'give and take' relation with people of the constituency, but there is a relation of heart. This is all I want to say,” Scindia said while interacting with local media persons at Shivpuri as part of his week-long tour of the Gwalior-Chambal region. His voice got a little heavy as he said this.

Scindia was defeated by BJP's K.P. Singh Yadav, once his close confidante, in the Guna parliamentary seat. Guna is considered the home turf for the Scindia family, and Jyotiraditya had won from the seat comfortably for four terms in the past. Before him, his father Madhavrao Scindia (Congress) and grandmother Vijayaraje Scindia (BJP) represented the seat in Lok Sabha.

Helps dalit families

Scindia also met the families of the two dalit children, who were beaten to death in Bhavkhedi village over open defecation, on Sunday. He assured them of all help including fulfilment of their demand of homes in Shivpuri town so that they could feel safe.

On the intervention of Scindia, the families were provided temporary homes in Shivpuri town by the district administration and he personally reached there to shift the families to their new homes on Monday afternoon. Scindia also said that one member from each of the families would be given government jobs and that he would personally give Rs 5 lakh each to the two families for construction of their own homes, Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi told THE WEEK.

Scindia also made arrangements for children of the two families to be sent to school. He has also written to Chief Minister Kamal Nath to provide compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to the families and also give them 10 bighas of land each so that they could resettle, Chaturvedi said.
