Ambassadors of four countries—Denmark, France, Mexico, Kazakhstan—and the European Union presented their credentials to President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday.

The new envoys in New Delhi's diplomatic community are Freddy Svane, ambassador of Denmark; Emmanuel Lenain, ambassador of France; Ugo Astuto, ambassador of the European Union; Federico Salas Lotfe, ambassador of Mexico; and Yerlan Alimbayev, ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Following the ceremony, Astuto said, “The EU and India can draw upon shared values of democracy and pluralism and their common belief in multilateralism to foster a cooperative approach to international relations, upholding values and principles of the UN Charter.''

India upgraded its relations with EU to a strategic partnership in 2004.

Lenain spoke about France's “determination to deepen the strategic cooperation between the two countries particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.'' He spoke about France's desire to forge a partnership for the future by supporting India on its initiatives on sustainable development, urban development, transport, energy and new technologies.
