The Bengaluru police are on the lookout for a man who worked for a logistics firm that deposits money in ATMs after he allegedly fled with Rs 99 lakh in cash on Friday evening.

The accused, Pavan Kumar who hails from Mandya in Karnataka, joined the cash logistics company Writer Safeguard Pvt Ltd as a driver. He along with three other staff of the company were at the ICICI ATM kiosk on Kamanahalli Road on Friday evening when the incident took place.

Two gunmen and custodians went into the ATM on Friday around 4.30 pm to fill it with cash when Pavan drove the van away. The custodians, who thought Pavan had gone to park the vehicle, alerted the police when he did not return. The police later traced the van abandoned in Lingarajapuram flyover with around Rs 23 lakh inside the locker.

The van contained over Rs 1.2 crore, but Pavan took Rs 99 lakh which was outside as he did not have access to the locker.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP east division) Rahul Kumar Shahpurwad assured that the accused will be nabbed soon as they had clues regarding his whereabouts. The DCP added that three special teams have been formed for the same.

The police said that standard operating procedure was not followed at the time of the incident, and that they are trying to trace Pavan using CCTV footage.
