SC verdict on Centre's review plea of 2018 SC/ST Act judgement

The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce on Friday its verdict on the Centre's plea seeking review of its March 20, 2018 judgement that had virtually diluted provisions of arrest under the SC/ST Act. A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra will pronounce the verdict.

The top court had on May 1 reserved the judgement on the Centre's review plea while observing that laws in the country should be caste-neutral and uniform. The Centre contended that the whole March 2018 verdict was "problematic" and it should be reviewed by the court. The verdict had led to massive outcry and violent protests by different SC/ST organisations across the country in which several people had died and many injured.

Shivakumar likely to be produced before court

Karnataka Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar, arrested in a money-laundering case, is likely to be produced before a Delhi court on Friday on expiry of his 9-day ED custody.

Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar had allowed the Enforcement Directorate to interrogate the politician in custody, saying the allegations made against him were serious in nature.

Order on Chidambaram's surrender application

A Delhi court reserved for Friday its order on a plea by former finance minister P. Chidambaram, lodged in Tihar jail in the INX Media corruption case, seeking to surrender in the ED's money-laundering case.

Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar was informed by the Enforcement Directorate that Chidambaram's arrest in the INX Media money-laundering case is necessary but it will be done at an appropriate time.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that Chidambaram is already in judicial custody in the CBI's corruption case and not in a position to tamper with the evidence.

CBI court to pronounce order on Robert Vadra

A CBI court is expected to pronounce on Friday its order on an application from Robert Vadra for permission to fly abroad. Vadra, who is facing allegations of money laundering related to purchase of a property in London at 12, Bryanston Square, worth 1.9 million pounds, is seeking permission to travel abroad from September 21 to October 8 for business purposes. The Enforcement Directorate told a Delhi court on Thursday that Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, may hamper the probe if allowed to travel to Spain and other European countries.

Pak PM to make 'policy statement' on Kashmir

Pakistan said Prime Minister Imran Khan will make a "policy statement" on Kashmir on Friday during his public address at the PoK's capital Muzaffarabad.

Announcing this during his weekly media briefing on Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said Pakistan is ready for any third-party mediation to resolve the Kashmir issue and asserted that the legality of the matter is based on international law. on Kashmir. However, the Foreign Office spokesperson did not elaborate.
