Kashmir Valley has been placed under a strict communication lockdown ever since India scrapped the special status of the state under Article 370 on August 5 in order to prevent the spread of fake news. However, the Twitter handle of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani is still found active, putting out anti-India tweets regularly.

Even though it is not clear who handles the Twitter handle @sageelani_, a section of media claims the possibility of it being handled from across the border. Pointing out that the tweets have no local content, which normally should have been available to a Kashmiri present on the ground, the IANS reports that the separatist leader's posts indicate that the handle is being managed by the ISPR, the media wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

The ISPR is known to run fake pro-Kashmiri and anti-India handles to keep the separatist fire burning among the people of the valley, says the report.

Meanwhile, a national media reported on Monday that the Jammu and Kashmir administration had suspended two BSNL officers associated with Geelani after it was found that he had internet access for four days during the intensive clampdown in the state. It said authorities had no clue that Geelani was accessing Internet until he tweeted from his account.

Geelani, along with several other separatist leaders, has been put under house arrest ahead of revocation of Article 370 that gave special status to Kashmir, and division of the state into two Union Territories—J&KK and Ladakh.
