Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has said that the government would give Rs 5,000 per month to families that have lost their houses in the flood. The amount will be provided on a monthly basis until construction of their permanent house was complete.

He was speaking to reporters during a visit to Belthangady taluk. The chief minister directed the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada S. Sasikanth Senthil to provide an immediate compensation of Rs 10,000 to all families. Yediyurappa said that over 275 houses were damaged in Dakshina Kannada and compensation of Rs 1 lakh will be given to those families whose houses were partially damaged and Rs 5 lakh to those whose houses were permanently damaged.

Yediyurappa said that the government would take steps to repair the damages on roads and bridges inflicted by the floods.

In addition, the chief minister has asked the deputy commissioner to take necessary measures to verify the details of crop loss and other properties to provide compensation to the victims.

Yediyurappa was inspecting the Kukkavu bridge on Somanthadkka-Didupe Road in Belthangady that was washed away in the heavy rains that battered the state in the past few days.

The CM also visited families taking shelter at the Kukkaavu Higher Primary School which has been converted into a relief camp in the meantime.
