A major fire broke out in a building that houses the state-run telecom company MTNL in Mumbai's Bandra area on Monday. According to reports around 100 people have been trapped on the terrace of the nine-strorey building.
Fourteen fire tenders have been pressed into service and the rescue operation is underway. The level 4 fire, which broke out around 3 pm, is mainly confined to the third and fourth floors of the building.

The cause of the blaze is not immediately known. However, according to an NDTV report, the eyewitnesses claimed to have smelt burning wires before the fire started.
An official told PTI that several persons, mostly MTNL employees, were present inside the building.
There were no reports yet of anyone being injured in the incident.
