Amid intense political upheaval in Keranataka, the rebel MLAs who were staying at a luxury hotel in Mumbai have reached back to Bengaluru on a special flight on Thursday afternoon. The 10 MLAs of the Congress and the JD(S) are expected to meet Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar this evening to resubmit their resignation.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the disgruntled MLAs to meet the speaker at 6 pm. The court also ordered Karnataka DGP to provide adequate security to the rebel MLAs

The MLAs were camping in Mumbai since Saturday evening after resigning as legislators and withdrawing support to the 13-month-old government in the southern state.

The rebel MLAs moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking a direction to the speaker to accept their resignations and stop threatening them with disqualification.

"We respect the Supreme Court's directives. We will meet the speaker today and tender our resignations. We will not withdraw our resignations," rebel MLA Byrathi Basavaraj said.

Two more Congress MLAs resigned on Wednesday, deepening the crisis in the state over the future of the H.D. Kumaraswamy-led coalition government.

The ruling coalition faces the threat of losing its majority if the resignations of the rebel MLAs are accepted. The coalition's total strength is 116 (Congress-78, JD(S)-37 and BSP-1), besides the speaker.
