Even as all eyes are focussed on who will get to be part of the ministerial team of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his swearing-in on Thursday evening, a unique form of attention grabbing was going on in the busy Radisson Square area of Indore on the same morning.

People made a beeline for the area after noticing a poster offering free shoe polishing service to “express gratitude” for making Modi the prime minister of India again.

While Mukesh Hariyale and his team of the Rama Shoes Laundry offered the free service, the man who grabbed most attention was Sanjay Kataria, a BJP corporator, who also sat with the team to polish the shoes of anyone who turned up to avail of the service.

Hariyale said that the day-long free service was to express gratitude to the people for the re-election of Narendra Modi. Hariyale said Modi had done a lot for the country and especially given respect to every profession.

Corporator Sanjay Kataria, talking to mediapersons, declared that Modi’s re-election with a huge majority was worth celebrating. As prime minister, Modi was instrumental in bringing to an end the VIP culture in the country, Kataria claimed.

“Modi ji made us realise that all professions were equally important and worth respect. When he himself picked up a broom to give the message of Swachh Bharat, people, especially Indore residents, were deeply affected,” Kataria said.

Kataria added Modi had also given a message to MPs, MLAs and others to behave and serve people like commoners and his decision to polish shoes of people was in keeping with this sentiment.
