Rajeev Chandrasekhar, a BJP MP in the Rajya Sabha, has been an outspoken critic of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on a host of issues over the years. On Tuesday, Chandrasekhar used a tweet by Rahul on the occasion of the death anniversary of his father, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, to troll the Congress chief about his “pathological obsessive lying skills”.

Rahul had tweeted about Rajiv on Tuesday morning, “My father was gentle, loving, kind & affectionate. He taught me to love & respect all beings. To never hate. To forgive. I miss him...” Chandrasekhar took to Twitter to ask, “I just want to know one thing—who 'taught' u this pathological obsessive lying skills?”

Chandrasekhar's stinging tweet against Rahul came on a day that a host of political leaders paid tributes to Rajiv. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had criticised Rajiv's action as prime minister during the election campaign, tweeted, “Tributes to former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.”

Chandrasekhar has persistently targeted Rahul for his utterances and criticisms of the Modi government. On May 19, after exit poll results showed Modi was likely to return to power, Chandrasekhar tweeted, “Thailand awaits its most frequent visitor”, in a jibe at Rahul's previous visits to that country.

Chandrasekhar joined the BJP formally in 2018 after having been an independent MP supported by the saffron party.
