At a press conference held in Delhi at 11:00am on Saturday, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh lambasted the Congress for not forming an alliance with the party in Delhi, Punjab or Haryana.

“Congress is stuck in the logistics of seat-sharing, while we want to save the country from the Modi-shah duo,” Sisodia stated, adding that, “There is not a single seat of Congress in Delhi, yet they are demanding three seats. In Punjab, we have 4 MPs and 20 MLAs and yet they are not offering us even one seat.”

The announcement followed days of back-and-forth between the parties over the potential seat-sharing agreement in Delhi. AAP's final terms, as of Saturday, were for a 4:3 seat-sharing agreement, where AAP would contest four seats and the Congress would run in three.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier tweeted that “An alliance between the Congress & AAP in Delhi would mean the rout of the BJP. The Congress is willing to give up 4 Delhi seats to the AAP to ensure this. But, Mr Kejriwal has done yet another U turn! Our doors are still open, but the clock is running out. “

Hopes of an alliance between the two hinged on a shared belief in defeating the BJP in the general election. Kejriwal had earlier told media personnel that he was willing to “do anything” to stop the BJP, while Rahul Gandhi had tweeted that “An alliance between the Congress & AAP in Delhi would mean the rout of the BJP. The Congress is willing to give up 4 Delhi seats to the AAP to ensure this. But, Mr Kejriwal has done yet another U turn! Our doors are still open, but the clock is running out. #AbAAPkiBaari.”

At the AAP conference, Sanjay Singh also took a platform to criticize the BJP for Sadhvi Pragya's statement on “cursing” the 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare, stating that the nation would not forgive those who insulted its martyrs. Singh added that if the BJP still won the election after dividing the country and insulting martyrs like Hemant Karkare, the Congress would be responsible.
