Karambir Singh appointed next chief of Indian Navy; know all about him

The Narendra Modi government on Saturday announced the appointment of Vice Admiral Karambir Singh as chief of Naval Staff. Singh will assume charge when the tenure of current Indian Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba ends on May 31. Singh will be the 24th chief of the Indian Navy.

Singh, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1980. He earned his wings as a helicopter pilot in 1982 and has flown the Chetak and Kamov helicopters of the Indian Navy. Singh is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the College of Naval Warfare in Mumbai.

Singh, who was appointed vice chief of the Indian Navy in 2016, was previously head of the Eastern Naval Command. Singh has commanded guided missile corvettes and destroyers of the Indian Navy. As vice admiral, Singh oversaw the development of infrastructure at Karwar, the most recent major base of the Indian Navy.
