After counting for the elections to two assembly constituencies began on Thursday, the Congress has won the Ramgarh seat (Rajasthan) and the BJP was leading in Jind (Haryana) respectively.

Shafia Zubair of the Congress, who polled 83,311 votes, defeated Sukhwant Singh of the BJP by 12,228 votes. The election to the Ramgarh seat could not be held during the polls in Rajasthan after the BSP candidate died during campaigning. With the win in Ramgarh, the Congress now has 100 seats in the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly.

In Jind, where counting was slower, the Krishna Middha of the BJP was leading with 21,052 votes at the end of the fifth round of counting. Midha led over JJP's Digvijay Chautala, who had polled 15,315 votes and Randeep Singh Surjewala of the Congress, who had gained 8,813 votes.

The bypoll in Jind was necessitated by the death of sitting INLD MLA Hari Chand Middha, the father of Krishna.
