The Union government is planning to set up more than 1.5 lakh wellness centres in the country by 2022 under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to take care of more than 40 per cent poor people in the country, said Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, minister of state for health and family welfare.

Speaking at a seminar on 'Shaping a new paradigm in medical and pharma services' at the 9th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit on Saturday, Chaubey talked about the model of cooperative federalism that has been effective in implementation of a number of progressive policies under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He urged the Indian diaspora to invest in the healthcare sector across the country.
Health Secretary Preeti Sudan said that India is the only country in South East Asia to have the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017. She also said that the Union government plans to eliminate tuberculosis by 2025.
Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Nitin Patel said that 2,700 hospitals of the state have been registered under the PMJAY.
As part of the 2019 summit, as many as 273 MoUs have been signed with a proposed investment of Rs 8,223.21 crore and projected employment for more than 18,000 people.
