The BJP looks all set to announce a "big decision' to boost the dwindling incomes of the country's farmers. Addressing a press conference, farmers' wing president Virendra Singh Mast said the government said, in the near future, such a resolution will be taken for the prosperity of farmers, PTI reported.

With the Lok Sabha elections fast approaching, a disruptive decision would come as no surprise. There were speculations that the Union government could announce a scheme to ensure an input cost to farmers, depending on their individual land-holdings. The Modi government had earlier passed a divisive bill that would ensure reservations on the basis of economic backwardness, as opposed to caste.

In the state elections, anger of the farmers was considered a major reason for the BJP losing three states in the Hindi heartland. Even the chief ministers and the tallest leaders felt the repercussions in their pocket boroughs.

According to PTI, Mast said that the farmers' wing of the BJP will hold its national convention at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh next month and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address its concluding session on February 24.
