The two women who attempted to reach the Sabarimala shrine today have agreed to abandon their efforts for now as one of them fell ill. Kanakadurga from Malappuram fainted during the trek. Police gave her first aid and carried her back the primary health centre at Appachimedu. From there she was taken to a hospital in Pamba in an ambulance.

Bindhu from Kozhikode has alleged that the police are forcing her to abandon her efforts to reach the temple. Accusing the police of using force, she protested by sitting on the ground. The police had to use force to bring her to the hospital in Pamba.
The two women had begun their trek to the temple early in the morning. They had faced protests at Appachimedu and the police had to use force to remove the protesters so that the women could reach Marakoottam. But more protesters had gathered here and the police said it was difficult to go forward. Meanwhile, Kanakadurga started feeling ill and she fainted. Reports say that the protests continued as the women were descending and some media persons were attacked and equipment was destroyed.
The duo are determined to reach the temple. They have said that they will stay there as long as is required, and will not return without getting darshanam of the lord. The women said that they were told that once Kanakadurga receives treatment they will be taken back to the sannidhanam. They said this is why they agreed to return.
Meanwhile, reports say that a high court supervisory committee is expected to reach the sannidhanam. The committee will submit a report after studying the situation.
