The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K. Chandrashekar Rao's gamble to call for elections six months ahead of the schedule seem to have worked well for the party. The party is currently leading in 89 of the state's 119 seats.

Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, KCR said it is a victory of the people of Telangana and asserted that the TRS is going to play a very crucial role in the national politics. "The nation needs a non-Congress and non-BJP government at the Centre. The country requires a new economic and agricultural model," he said.

While thanking the TRS ally, AIMIM, a jubilant KCR said that he had kept two aircrafts ready to travel across India, one for him and another for AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. "National Front is not the alignment of political parties, it miserably failed. It is not possible, we need to unite people and not parties," said KCR.

For the Congress and Telugu Desam Party, the setback in Telangana will have ramifications for their efforts to forge a united opposition. TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken on the task of forging a united front for which, a huge 21-party meeting was held in Delhi on Monday.

Even though exit polls had predicted a win for KCR, the victory margin was smaller.
