Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam on Tuesday attacked Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for failing to initiate action against minister Subhash Deshmukh who allegedly attempted to rob the state exchequer of Rs 25 crore by submitting false documents.

According to Nirupam, the chief minister instead transferred dairy development commissioner R.R. Jadhav and posted him as labour commissioner. The transfer came hours after Nirupam exposed the rampant corruption in state co-operatives on Monday and showed the forged documents that Subhash Deshmukh had submitted to the government.

Slamming CM Fadnavis, Nirupam said, "Despite the proof, the CM has taken no decision to sack his corrupt minister Subhash Deshmukh and instead transferred the dairy development commissioner. It seems like the CM never fails to shock us as to how low he can stoop in order to cover up for his favourites."

Calling R.R. Jadhav as the whistleblower in the case, Nirupam claimed that the government was taking action against the honest and protecting the corrupt. It was Jadhav who had first noticed that minister Subhash Deshmukh's Lokmangal Multi-State Cooperative society Ltd. had tried to secure funds from the Centre and the state government using forged documents. Jadhav had also stated that he had asked the regional dairy development officer for a status report. He had frozen the operations on the society's account to ensure that no funds given by the government are misused.

On Monday, Nirupam had claimed that Subhash Deshmukh, on behalf of his firm Lokmangal Multi-State Cooperative Society Ltd., forged a series of documents from multiple departments to get a sanction worth Rs. 24.81 crore. He said the respective departments denied having issued any such documents from their end.
