The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is now on an austerity drive and plans to cut down the government expenditure to fill the coffers.

The government has taken some vital decisions in this regard, which include no new posts for appointments, no purchase of new vehicles and no government functions in five-star hotels. The government has asked its officials not to travel in business class in fights. It has also instructed officials to do away with decoration of offices during the change of the head of the department.

The government has also decided to get rid of those government posts which do not have much benefits.

Barring police and health department, no new posts will be approved in any other department of the state government. There will be no regular appointments for Class IV posts which are lying vacant or will become vacant soon.

Chief Secretary Anoop Chand Pandey has issued detailed instructions in this regard to the senior IAS officials concerned and asked them to follow the orders strictly.

In the coming new year, the government will do away with the practice of giving new calendars, diaries and other gifts by various departments to their staff.

These steps have been implemented with immediate effect. The government also wants to use e-mails, video conferencing, and other electronic means for communication among various departments so that expenditure on stationery items can be curbed.

The government is also planning to prevent the ‘March loot.’ Many government departments are known to spend most part of the money allocated to them at the end of the financial year in the month of February and March. The pressure of spending the allocated budget often results in spending on those things which are not required, and this tendency is dubbed as ‘March–loot.’

According to the chief secretary, after the new orders only essential things will be purchased in these two months, which will help in curbing unnecessary expenditure.
