After a reassuring monsoon session of the parliament, the BJP now seems to be heading towards political volatility. After the passage of two socially inclusive legislations for dalits and the OBCs and facing protests from the upper castes against these bills, the saffron party, is now in another dilemma—whether to celebrate the 8.2 per cent growth rate or fire fight public resentment over the rising fuel prices. Amid these concerns, the BJP will hold its two-day national executive meeting in New Delhi on September 8 and 9.
High on its agenda during the two-day meeting will be the gameplan for the upcoming polls in three of the party-ruled states and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. It will perhaps be for the first time that BJP will be defending three of its states against the onslaught of the opposition. Almost all the earlier contests were non-BJP parties trying to defend their governments in the assembly elections.
The BJP's national executive meeting is taking place after a gap of one year. As the countdown for the elections have begun, the BJP will be articulating its position on two polarising issues of National Register for Citizens and the arrest of activists allegedly linked to the Maoists. The BJP had taken political ownership of the NRC as it claimed to have fulfilled the long held promise of driving out illegal migrants. Party chief Amit Shah himself had aggressively stated that illegal migrants will no longer be accepted. These two issues are likely to feature in the political resolution to be adopted at the national executive meeting.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are likely to tell the party leaders about the social welfare measures undertaken by the party which have benefitted over 22 crore people across the country. They are expected to tell the party leaders to contest the claims of the opposition over Rafale deal.
The meet will also commemorate the contribution of its first prime minister and founding father, Atal Bihari Vajpayee who died last month.
