In another case of mob lynching, a 20-year-old youth was killed by a group of people on suspicion that he had stolen a buffalo in Bholapur Hadoliya village of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night.

Police said Shahrukh and three of his friends had gone out when a group of people attacked them, accusing them of buffalo thieves. While Shahrukh was brutally thrashed by the group, his friends managed to escape. He was later succumbed to his injuries in a nearby hospital.

The Cantt police have arrested for persons in connection with the incident.

The latest incident came on the same day when a panel headed by Union Home Secretary Rajeev Gauba presented a report on the possibility of a new law to target the menace of mob lynching to a Group of Ministers (GoM). The high-level panel was formed to discuss steps to curb fake news and misinformation which often lead to mob violence.

According to reports, the panel has also issued guidelines to social media platforms to check rumours and hate mongering.

Nearly 40 people were lynched in the country in last one year due to the circulation of fake news in popular social media platforms like WhatsApp.
