Kerala Additional director general of police (ADGP) Sudesh Kumar, who allegedly mistreated his junior colleagues, has been removed as the head of the Armed Police Battalion. The swift action comes even as K.B. Ganesh Kumar MLA, who was accused of beating up a car driver and insulting the man's mother, is yet to face criminal charges.

Sudesh Kumar gained notoriety after his driver Gavaskar alleged that the senior cop's daughter had assaulted him. In his complaint, Gavaskar alleged that the IPS officer's daughter had verbally abused him and hit him hard on his neck and shoulder with her mobile phone, following which he sustained spinal injuries and is undergoing treatment.

While the police hastily filed cases against both the complainant in Gavaskar's case, the police have not filed a case against Ganesh Kumar. On the other hand, they have slapped a non-bailable charge on the son of the woman, who complained to the police that the legislator insulted her and beat up her son on Wednesday. More shockingly, a few top officers reportedly tried to settle the case which earned a lot of bad press for the people's representative.

Sheena, the youth's mother, said that the MLA was furious when their cars came face-to-face on a narrow road. Though her son backed out, the legislator and his driver got out from the car and rained blows on him, she said. She has also complained to the chief minister, the director general of police and the deputy superintendent of police.

The police have not acted on her complaint so far though they were prompt in following up on the legislator’s complaint, which was filed as an afterthought.

The MLA on Saturday said politicians would have to face many allegations and refused to comment anything more.

Meanwhile, in Gavaskar's case, despite the initial hesitancy to act when their own colleague complained against a superior's daughter, police launched into action on Saturday with removal of ADGP Sudesh Kumar.

Though the police finally filed his complaint and slapped a non-bailable charge against the woman, they also accepted a counter-complaint from the latter. While the woman is accused of obstructing a cop from discharging his duties, the driver is accused of attempting to insult the woman.

Kumar’s wife and daughter were travelling in his official car when they had an altercation with the department driver.

Sudesh Kumar has not been assigned any new roles. S. Anandakrishnan will be the new chief of Armed Police Battalion.
