In its latest statement on the health status of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has said the condition of the former PM is "stable". Vajpayee was admitted to AIIMS on Monday. "He is responding to treatment and is on injectible antibiotics. All vital parameters are stable. He will continue to be in the hospital until the infection is controlled," the statement said.

The former PM has been diagnosed with urinary tract infection, and was being given appropriate treatment for that, the hospital said in a press note released late last night. The WEEK has learned from sources in AIIMS that Vajpayee had a renal failure on Monday, and so was put on dialysis. The former PM had one kidney removed in an operation several years ago, a source at the hospital said.

Ever since Vajpayee's admission in AIIMS, he has had several high profile visitors including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
