In a horrific incident, an 18-year-old woman committed suicide while live-streaming the entire episode on Facebook at her home in Sonarpur of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

Mousumi Mistry, a Class 12 student of Kamrabad School, hanged herself on the ceiling fan and streamed the entire incident on Facebook Live video with another person on the other side, reportedly her boyfriend.

According to reports, the woman had left her home on Saturday afternoon to meet her friend and came back around 6 pm. Mousumi's family said she looked depressed while returning.

Her mother, who works as a maid at a nearby hospital, left the house by 6:30 pm, the police said, adding the victim was alone in the house as her brother and father were also out for work.

On Sunday morning, when she did not wake up till 8 am, her mother knocked the door of her room, but did not get any response. She later saw through a window Mousumi hanging from the ceiling with a dupatta tied around her neck.

Police, which had initiated a probe into the case, found that Mousumi had chatted with her boyfriend on WhatsApp at night.

Later, it was found that victim had gone live on Facebook while taking the extreme step, said a police officer.
