Extreme heatwave conditions prevailed over western parts of Madhya Pradesh, with the mercury hitting over 45 degree Celsius in Khargone district. Several other parts of the state are reeling under the heat of the scorching sun as pre-monsoon weather activities gained momentum in other parts of the country.

According to weather scientists, the rise in temperature is due to the change in direction of winds in the northern part of India. Currently, the north-westerly winds are gaining momentum over the central parts of India, leading to extreme temperature.

Khargone recorded 45 degree Celsius on Friday, while several districts in the Vidarbha region crossed 46 degree Celsius during last three days. Places around Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal recorded over 42 degree Celsius, while the temperature soared to 43 degree Celsius in Nowgong of Bundelkhand. Khandwa recorded 44 degree Celsius, while Jabalpur crossed the mark of 42 degree Celsius. Similarly, the hill station of Pachmarhi recorded 37 degree Celsius, while the mercury crossed 42 degree Celsius in the districts of Betul, Guna, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Indore, Hoshangabad, Umaria and Dewas.

The Meteorological Department says that such heatwave conditions will continue for some period. However, a respite will be witnessed through light showers in next few days in some places of Gwalior, Chambal, Ujjain and Bhopal divisions. The skies are partially cloudy, leading to rise in temperature and humidity.
