Actor Prakash Raj on Thursday hit out at the Kerala CPI(M) over its stand on the agitation by local residents at Keezhattur in Kannur district of Kerala against a proposed national highway bypass through paddy fields.

Terming the party's stand on the protests a fascist tendency, he said: “If the CPI(M) is trying to sabotage the farmers' protest, the party is equally dangerous to society like the BJP.”

The actor's comment came in the backdrop of the arrest of dozens of activists.

Earlier, a tense situation prevailed in the area after the protest venue of Vayalkilikal, the group spearheading the agitation against the bypass project, was set on fire, allegedly by CPI(M) workers.

Talking to media in Kasargode, Prakash Raj said people should not fall for the words of political parties; they should look at their actions instead. “Hunger has no colour, hunger has no ideologies,” he said.

The CPI(M) claimed that 56 of the total 60 residents of Keezhattur whose land was identified for acquisition had given consent letters. The agitators, however, rejected the claim as fake.
