At a time when India and Pakistan are trading charges of ill-treatment faced by each others’ diplomats, the National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet in a case related to alleged blackmailing of a woman Army officer by a Pakistani Intelligence official, with the intention of forcing her to divulge national secrets.

The NIA on Monday filed a chargesheet in the case against an alleged Pakistani spy, Mohammed Parvez, who was trying to trap a woman Army officer to get national security secrets at the behest of Pakistani intelligence officials. Parvez (46) was residing in Chandni Mahal area in the walled city. The chargesheet has been filed in a special NIA court in Delhi’s Patiala house court complex on Monday .

The accused was first arrested by the Delhi police when the woman officer approached them with a complaint. The NIA said in a statement that the accused had sent the woman officer obscene and morphed Whatsapp images and messages from a mobile phone and Facebook ID, with a veiled threat to circulate them on social media. He was trying to mentally harass her and was also threatening to ruin her reputation. The complainant is a Lt. Colonel rank officer. More importantly, the NIA has said the accused committed the offence as part of “a deep-rooted conspiracy hatched by Pakistani Intelligence officials and the arrested accused with a view to compromise an officer of the Indian Army into divulging national security secrets.”

The NIA has invoked charges under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act against the accused.

Parvez was arrested on September 13 last year by the Delhi police, but after investigations threw up material to indicate that he had visited Pakistan a few times, the case was given to the special cell. The NIA later took up the case and found that he had been helping some Pakistani nationals to procure SIM cards in India and was suspected to be linked to the Inter Services Intelligence.
