In a bizarre move, the Boarder Security Force issued an order deducting a week's salary of a soldier for “showing disrespect” to the prime minister during a routine drill, but withdrew it later after Narendra Modi expressed displeasure over the punishment.

"The prime minister has expressed his displeasure and directed the force to immediately withdraw the punishment. The order has been rescinded and the concerned Commandant has been cautioned for not dealing with the matter judiciously," he said.

The BSF reportedly issued the pay cut order on February 21. “Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Constable Sanjeev Kumar for referring to the zero parade as 'Modi Programme' on February 21,” said a report in The Hindu. The report further adds that Kumar was found guilty under Section 40 of the BSF Act, 1968 (act prejudicial to good order and discipline of the force).

Kumar was posted in the 15th battalion of the BSF deployed in West Bengal's Nadia district. This battalion is deployed to guard the India-Bangladesh international border.
