The release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt in the lead, has been pushed to February 18, 2022. It was earlier scheduled to hit theatres in January 2022 where it would have clashed with SS Rajamouli's much-awaited period drama RRR.
"We are glad to announce that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi has a new release date. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film will release on February 18, 2022," a statement from the team read.

Rajamouli also took to Twitter to thank Bhansali and the team for their decision to postpone the film's release.
Gangubai Kathiawadi was initially scheduled to release on July 30, but was delayed due to lockdowns and the second wave of the pandemic. The film has been produced by Bhansali and Dr Jayantilal Gada from Pen Studios.
The film has been adapted from one of the chapters of noted author Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Alia features as Gangubai, one of the most powerful, loved and respected madams from Kamathipura during the 1960s. The film also stars Seema Pahwa and has cameo appearances by Ajay Devgn and Huma Qureshi.
