A Mumbai sessions court, on Thursday, reserved its order on the bail plea by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with the recent drugs bust onboard a cruise liner off the Mumbai coast, till Wednesday (October 20).

The NCB had opposed the bail plea on Wednesday (October 13), and the hearing resumed on Thursday. After hearing extensive arguments of the investigating agency NCB and defense lawyers, special judge V.V. Patil posted the matter for orders on Wednesday.

As the bail hearing resumed, the NCB told the court that Aryan Khan has been using narcotic substance for a while. "He (Aryan Khan) used to consume it for the last few years," Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, representing NCB, said, even as he claimed that many young boys in the land of M.K. Gandhi are falling prey to drug menace.

Aryan Khan's lawyer Amit Desai admitted that drug menace is an issue that needs to be addressed, but said "whatever action is taken, it should be within the ambit of the law" and added that those addicted need to be given a chance for reformation even as he clarified that his client is not an addict.

Desai also had a word of praise for the investigating agency. According to Bar and Bench, Desai told the court, "I don't think there is any debate or doubt that the entire world is fighting drug menace….Kudos to the NCB for doing this job and just hope that they continue the investigation in a legal manner. I am appreciating that the officers are risking their lives for protecting their country.”

Desai has been contending that his client was wasn't even on the cruise and the NCB did not find any drugs on him.
