Alia Bhatt begins preparation for 'Darlings'

72-Alia-Bhatt Reimagining Sita: After writers like Amish and Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni gave Sita a fiery makeover, it is now the turn of tinseltown, where it is raining Sitas. On March 11, it was confirmed that Kriti Sanon would play Sita in Om Raut’s much-awaited Adipurush, opposite Prabhas’s Ram. Recently, on her birthday, Alia Bhatt posted her first look as Sita in S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR, which is a fictional story about two freedom fighters. And we hear Deepika Padukone, too, has thrown her hat into the ring. Reports say she has been approached by Nitesh Tiwari to play Sita in his Ramayana. Where the films are a retelling of the epic, the filmmakers might have a tightrope to walk in fashioning their Sitas. Feminists and liberals might object to a submissive Sita, willingly accepting her banishment to the forest. And in the charged atmosphere we live, straying far from the traditional Sita might not bode well for their films | PTI

Actor Alia Bhatt has started her preparation for Shah Rukh Khan's next home production film Darlings, which also stars Shefali Shah.

Billed as a story of a quirky mother-daughter duo, "Darlings" is set in Mumbai against the backdrop of a conservative lower middle-class neighbourhood, the film traces the lives of two women as they find courage and love in exceptional circumstances.

The 28-year-old actor took to Instagram Stories to share a picture of the script.

"Prep," Bhatt captioned the post.

The dark-comedy, which marks Bhatt's foray into film production, is the directorial debut of writer Jasmeet K Reen.

The film also stars Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew. Besides Darlings, Bhatt will be seen in Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed Gangubai Kathiawadi and S S Rajamouli's RRR.
