Kannada actor-activist Chetan Kumar's tweet, saying "Brahminism is negation of the spirit of Liberty, Equality, Fraternity," angered the community, which filed a complaint with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant.

According to The News Minute, Brahmin Development Board chairperson Sachidananda Murthy, in his complaint, said the sentiments of the community has been hurt by the remarks by the actor and sought an apology from him.

“Brahminism is negation of the spirit of Liberty, Equality, Fraternity…we must uproot Brahminism— #Ambedkar ‘While all are born as equals, to say that Brahmins alone are highest & all others are low as Untouchables is sheer nonsense. It is a big hoax’ — #Periyar,” the actor had tweeted.

It is not yet known if an FIR has been registered against the actor in the wake of the complaint.

However, Murthy told The News Minute that the police commissioner had assured that action will be initiated against the actor over his remarks.

Chetan Kumar reportedly hasn't received a notice from the police. He said he came to know about it through media reports. "The statements are factual and I have only spoken facts. We do not want injustice to be prevalent in society be it socio-economic or gender. The aim is to use education to make the world a better place. Our goal is to create a society which is non-discriminatory,”  The News Minute quoted him as saying.

The remarks by the actor had the social media divided. While many extended support to the actor, he also faced backlash from some users.
