The pandemic hit the entertainment industry hard with production and movie releases halted for almost an entire year. Along with work, it also put a halt to travel plans of celebrities and #wanderlust updates on social media. However, recently, many Bollywood celebrities have been heading to the Maldives and sharing amazing photographs from the beach destination.

They have also been facing flak from members of the entertainment industry for posting holiday pictures while the pandemic rages on. Recently, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui minced no words when he criticised these celebrities. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, he said, “These entertainment celebrities posting vacation pictures at a time when the world is reeling under the worst recession. …Logon ke pass khana nahin hai aur aap paise phenk rahe ho. Kuch toh sharm karo [People don’t have food and you are wasting money, have some shame]."

He further said: “In logon ne Maldives ko tamasaha bana rakha hai [These people have made a joke out of Maldived]. I don’t know what their arrangement is with the tourism industry. But for the sake of humanity, please keep these vacations to yourself. There is suffering everywhere. The cases of Covid are multiplying. Have a heart. Please don’t taunt those who are suffering.”

Many actors like Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Disha Patani, Tiger Shroff, and more have shared their vacation pictures from Maldives.
