Release date of Kangana Ranaut's 'Thalaivi' revealed

The much-awaited biopic of former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa, Thalaivi, starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead, finally has a release date.

Taking to Instagram, Ranaut announced that the movie will hit theatres on April 23.

"To Jaya Amma, on her birth anniversary 🙏 From changing the Face of cinema to the Fate of a state, Jaya amma shaped destinies of millions! Witness the story of the legend, #Thalaivi, in cinemas on 23rd April, 2021," she wrote, sharing a motion picture of the movie.

Earlier, in a statement, Ranaut had said, “Jayalalithaaji is one of the biggest female success stories of this century. She was a superstar and went on to become an iconic politician, it’s a great concept for a mainstream film. I am honoured to be a part of this mega project.”

Thalaivi, a A.L.Vijay directorial, is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh. Director Vijay had earlier said: “Jayalalithaa madam was one of the most prominent leaders of our country. Making a film on= her life is a big responsibility and we are going to do it with utmost care and honesty. Am proud and happy with our association with one of India’s biggest star and the very talented Kangana Ranaut ji to portray the dynamic role of our very dynamic leader.”

The film will also see Arvind Swami play actor-politician MGR. Thalaivi also stars Priyamani as Sasikala.
