Kamal Haasan undergoes successful leg surgery

He is expected to be discharged in four-five days

Actor-politician Kamal Haasan underwent a leg surgery on Tuesday morning at a Chennai hospital, his daughters Shruti and Haasan and Akshara Haasan said in a joint statement.

“We are happy to inform all of you that the surgery was a success! The surgery was performed on his leg this morning at Sri Ramachandra Hospital. performed by orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Mohan Kumar along with Dr. J.S.N Murthy. The Doctors, attendees and the Hospital Management are taking wonderful care of our father and he is doing well, is in good spirits and working toward a speedy recovery,” said the statement. He is expected to be discharged in four-five days.

After a few days of rest and recuperating from the surgery, he shall be ready to interact with people as always. A heartfelt Thank You from us for all your prayers for his well-being and the immense love showered on him. We are grateful that your good energy will be a big part of your speedy recovery!"

Kamal Haasan had announced that he will be undergoing a follow-up surgery on his leg, and will be taking a short break from his poll campaign. He added: “The love and affection showered by the people of Tamil Nadu, was an effective antidote to the severe pain that I used to suffer during my campaign. Now I have an opportunity to take some rest. Therefore, I would be undergoing the follow up surgery on my leg as advised. I will come back fully rejuvenated within a few days to resume my campaign with renewed vigour.”

Assembly elections are due in Tamil Nadu during April, May 2021. Haasan, who started his poll campaign in December said he covered 5,000 plus kilometres in 15 days over the last five weeks and completed the first leg of his campaign.
