Shooting of superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming movie Annaatthe has temporarily been halted as several of the crew members tested positive for COVID-19. At least eight members of the crew tested positive.

Sources close to Rajinikanth said the actor has been asked to go into self-isolation and take all the necessary precautions. The actor is expected to return from Hyderabad to Chennai in a day or two.

The shooting of the big budget movie, Annaatthe, produced by Sun Pictures was put on hold in March after the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed. The shoot resumed on December 14 and Rajinikanth had travelled to Hyderabad along with his daughter Soundarya, to complete shooting some of the pending portions of the movie.

The shoot was scheduled for 45 days and the entire team was at work at the Ramoji Film City. Sources say that only 40 per cent of the movie has been completed and Rajinikanth wanted to finish the project before taking the active political plunge.

Rajinikanth, after returning to Chennai, may continue to be in isolation, said sources. He might fly back to Chennai in a chartered flight. The actor is expected to launch his political party on December 31 and begin his active political journey. His to-be launched political party’s office bearers Ra Arjunamurthy and Tamilaruvi Manian, along with his well-wishers, have chalked out plans for his party launch and also public meetings in January, add sources. There were reports that Makkal Sevai Katchi, registered with the Election Commission of India by a person named Stalin from Thoothukudi, is likely be Rajinikanth’s party. The symbol could be auto rickshaw which was used in one of his blockbuster movie Baasha.

Sources say Rajinikanth, who was afraid that he may have contracted COVID-19, during one of his meetings with the Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) functionaries, has been advised to take all safety precautions and health tips by his well-wishers.

It may be recalled that Rajinikanth, who turned 70 on December 12, had undergone renal transplant from a hospital in USA in 2016.
