Celebrities including actors Taapsee Pannu, Neha Dhupia and comedian Vir Das have raised concerns over the unbelievable rise in electricity bills during the lockdown.

Taapsee shared an image of her electricity bill from April to June and questioned the 'insane rise' in from Rs 3,000-4,000 that she had paid in the previous months. “3 months of lockdown and I wonder what appliance(s) I have newly used or bought in the apartment only last month to have such an insane rise in my electricity bill. @Adani_Elec_Mum what kind of POWER r u charging us for?” Taapsee tweeted.

In another tweet, she also said that she had received a bill for an apartment that she has not been using.

Actress Renuka Shahane also asked how her bill of Rs 5,510 in May surged to Rs 29,700 in June.

“Dear @Adani_Elec_Mum I got a bill of Rs5510/= on the 9th of May while in June I got a bill of Rs 29,700 combining May and June where you’ve charged me Rs 18, 080 for the month of May. How did Rs.5510/= become Rs.18080/?” she tweeted.

After Vir Das tweeted about getting an electricity bill that is 'triple of what they usually pay', Neha Dhupia responded saying she too had the same experience.

Dino Morea, too, joined Vir Das and said that the bill had literally given him a shock. “I was just going to tweet about it. Literally got a shock, pun intended. There was no surge in electricity, just the bill,” he tweeted.

After celebrities started sharing their electricity bill woes, Twitter users took to the social media platform to share similar experiences. With #electricitybill trending on Twitter on Monday, many users have also posted memes that take a dig at the issue.
