Singer Sona Mohapatra has always been a vocal advocate of women’s rights and never shies away from speaking her mind. Sona took to Twitter to respond to an ongoing controversy about normalising gender violence in many TikTok videos. She said that demeaning women is normalised in our society, and took a dig at actor Salman Khan.

Sona was reacting to a controversial video by TikTok user Faizal Siddiqui. The video shows Faizal taking revenge on a girl for leaving him, by throwing a liquid that causes damage to her face. This has triggered criticism from many users who said such videos promote violence against women.

Responding to a tweet regarding the same, Sona tweeted: “Dear @aaliznat, nothing before & after the ‘spliced’ video u were defending of this guy cd justify it.Demeaning women is normalised in our culture. We grew up with stories of SalmanKhan, breaking bottles on his girlfriends head in public, yet the country’s biggest star?Needs to stop.”

Sona had earlier referred to Salman as the ‘poster child of toxic masculinity’. She was responding to Salman’s comments on Priyanka Chopra after she walked out of his film Bharat in the last minute. “Cus @priyankachopra has better things to do in life, real men to hang out with & more importantly, girls to inspire with her journey,” she wrote.
