Twitter users roast Khans as they hail south actors’ COVID-19 relief donations

On Saturday, the Khans of Bollywood featured on Twitter’s trending list as users criticised their absence from the coronavirus relief operations. With news of south Indian stars like Pawan Kalyan, Ram Charan, Prabhas and Allu Arjun contributing crores towards relief operation in AP, Telangana and the Centre, users hailed their actions.

While most Bollywood celebrities have been actively promoting awareness on the pandemic, urging people to stay indoors and practice social distancing, nothing much has been reported about the financial contributions of the superstars.

Hrithik Roshan had recently contributed Rs 20 lakh to the Maharashtra government to provide masks and other protective gear for the BMC workers and caretakers. “In times such as these, we must do whatever we can to ensure the safety of the most fundamental caretakers of our city and society. I have procured N95 and FFP3 masks for our BMC workers and other caretakers,” he tweeted.

Telugu superstar Ram Charan, who celebrated his 37^th birthday on Friday, took to Twitter on Thursday to announce that he would contribute Rs 70 lakh to fight the pandemic. Fans have been appreciating the star’s gesture, and wishing him the best on his birthday. He said that he was inspired by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan who Rs 1 crore to the PM’s relief fund and Rs 50 lakh each to the relief funds of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Actor Allu Arjun contributed Rs 1.25 crore to the relief fund of three states – Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala. Interestingly, Allu Arjun has a huge fan base in Kerala.

Baahubali superstar Prabhas has also contributed to Rs 1 crore to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Ministers’ Relief Funds. Prabhas recently returned from Georgia where he was shooting for a film, and went into 14-day self-quarantine.
