The Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) where singer Kanika Kapoor is being treated after testing positive for COVID-19 has strongly scolded her for “throwing tantrums”.

“Kanika Kapoor has been provided the best that is possible in a hospital. She must co-operate as a patient and not throw tantrums of a star. She is being provided a Gluten-Free Diet from Hospital Kitchen. She has to co-operate with us," Dr RK Dhiman, Director, Sanjay Gandhi PGIMS, Lucknow said, ANI reported.

"Facility provided to her is an isolated room with a toilet, patient-bed and a television. The ventilation of her room is air-conditioned with a separate Air Handling Unit for COVID-19 unit. Utmost care is being taken but she must first start behaving as a patient and not a star,” he added.

Kapoor had earlier claimed in an interview with The Times of India that she was being treated like a criminal in the hospital and complained that her room was full of mosquitoes, that she was not being fed adequately and that she was hungry, thirsty and miserable.

Kapoor had posted about being tested positive on Instagram.

“Hello everyone, For the past 4 days I have had signs of flu, I got myself tested and it came positive for Covid-19. My family and I are in complete quarantine now and following medical advice on how to move forward. Contact mapping of people I have been in touch with is underway as well. I was scanned at the airport as per normal procedure 10days ago when I came back home, the symptoms have developed only 4 days ago.”

In the post, she urged the public to practice self-isolation.

However, she had attracted controversy after police said she defied instructions to quarantine herself after being screened at the Lucknow airport. After being told to do so, she attended several social gatherings and also went shopping in public places.

It came to light that she had come in contact with Dushyant Singh at a party, who has since tested positive. Singh had since interacted with several politicians including his mother Vasundhara Raje, West Bengal MP Derek O’Brien, and even President Ram Nath Kovind.

The result was that an FIR was lodged against Kapoor for negligence, disobedience of an order by a public servant and of committing a negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life.

Kapoor has since denied the charges, insisting that she did not defy screening at the airport and claiming that she pursued authorities to test her samples later. Discrepancies in the FIR have since emerged, as the CMO on whose complaint it was filed now says she was screened not at Lucknow airport on March 11 but at Mumbai airport on March 9, NDTV reported.
