On Monday, when protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act was raging across the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed for peace, saying violent protests are unfortunate and deeply distressing. "Debate, discussion and dissent are essential parts of democracy but, never has damage to public property and disturbance of normal life been a part of our ethos," he had tweeted.

Further, the prime minister had also urged people to maintain peace, unity and brotherhood and appealed them to "stay away from any sort of rumour mongering and falsehoods."

Reacting to the prime minister's appeal, popular actor Renuka Shahane took to Twitter to point out that it is the IT cell of the BJP that is responsible for spreading "the most amount of the most amount of rumours, falsehoods."

Claiming that the "real tukde tukde gang" is the IT cell of the saffron party, she urged the prime minister to stop them from spreading hate.

"Sir, please ask people to stay away from all your IT cell Twitter handles then. They spread the most amount of rumours, falsehoods and are totally against brotherhood, peace and unity. The real."tukde tukde" gang is your IT cell sir. Please stop them from spreading hate," she tweeted.

Her tweet was widely retweeted by her followers.
