Manju Warrier-Shrikumar Menon controversy: Police register complaint, probe on

manju-Warrier-case

The Thrissur Police have registered a case against Mollywood director Sreekumar Menon after popular actor Manju Warrier filed a complaint with Kerala Police Chief Loknath Behera, accusing the director of threatening her.

District Crime Branch SP C.D. Sreenivasan will probe the case. The allegations against the director include outraging the modesty of women, stalking and indecent representation of women via social media.

In her complaint filed on Monday, Manju alleged that Menon, who directed the movie Odiyan in which she played one of the leads, has been threatening and defaming her. She also handed over digital evidence to support her claims.

"After the release of Odiyan, I have been receiving defamatory messages on social media. I have been subjected to cyber attacks. I tried to ignore them, but Menon has been troubling me. Menon and his friend Mathew Samuel have been posting defamatory statements against me. I am afraid that he may harm me," the actor had said in her complaint.

She further alleged that Menon has been misusing the letterhead of her foundation —Manju Warrier Foundation—and blank cheques signed by her.

Menon's response

The director had taken to Facebook to counter her allegations. He said he had trusted her despite many of her friends warning him against it.

He also cited an incident involving the actor during a shoot in Hyderabad. “When she left her house, she had just Rs 1,500 in her bank account and she was very worried. At that time, I handed her a cheque of Rs 25 lakh as advance for her first ad shoot,” he wrote while adding that he will fully cooperate with the investigation into the case.
